Misunderdsthood is an interactive hoodie and narrative that addresses the issues of police brutality. Users will be instructed to place on a hooded sweatshirt. Once the hood is flipped up, an audio clip will play. Users will then hear a story of a young Black boy’s encounter with a white police officer. Misundersthood aims to show what it feels like to walk in the shoes of a young Black or Brown person, two demographics that are disproportionately targeted by the police. This project was inspired by an actual encounter I had with police when I was thirteen years old.
