Freedom of Flight follows a young boy’s journey to freedom through learning how to fly. In this series of mixed media and acrylic on canvas, I highlight the idea that the mere existence of Black and Brown people is a form of resistance. This resistance is what is needed for us to defy gravity and fly even though our anatomy isn’t constructed to do so.

Flight holds several meanings in my paintings: the ability to be resilient, refers to one’s autonomic nervous system which determines if a person will fight, flee, or freeze when a perceived threat is presented, and the life-changing journey that one will eventually embark on.
